Consumers to Savers?

It would be nice not to have to worry about being in our current economic climate but I can’t do it.
I’m not even worried about it for myself as much as I am for my child.
The questions are:
Is it too late to go back to a nation of Savers & Producers?
Could we become Savers if forced?
Is it too late to start saving?
I don’t claim to be anything near a pro or even an amateur when it comes to the economy but I do try to use my common sense.
