What makes a partnershp?
The following is the definition of what a partner is, taken directly from Wiki:
- a member of a loving couple, often used to describe a member of a homosexual couple, or as a neutral term like significant other , that can apply to other unmarried couples
- a friend who shares a common interest or participates in achieving a common goal eg a colleague on a work team or a partner in doubles tennis
- a member of a partnership
- a participant in a Partner dance
- Partner (business rank) is a member of a law firm or accounting firm which is formed as a partnership; sometimes senior employees of the firm may have the title "partner" (e.g., "salaried partner") to indicate a profit sharing status; salaried partners are distinguished from equity partners , who own the business.
The two definitions that are not crossed out are the ones that I plan on preaching about while on my soap box.
Before I moved to Atlanta that were a few partnerships that I assumed that I could depend on to do what they said they were going to do.
The first was a partnership between me, myself and I.
I knew (and still do) that I will not disappoint myself nor will I not live up to my expectations (part of the reason for my site, accountability ).
The second partnership was with my homeboy that has lived in Atlanta for a few years, if you remember my post on no such thing as a coincidence then I’m referring to Neek.
The third partnership was with someone that I always assumed had my back however due to past events, questioning past events and the character of this person I’ve got to question my own logic on how I came to the conclusion that this person was truly a partner.
To me a partnership is between me and either a person or group of people, and to those people I promise nothing more than to be true to my word.
If I tell you that I’m going to do something then rest assured that it will happen.
It might not happen right away or when they want it to happen (unless it is something time sensitive) but it will happen.
The reason that it will happen is because a partnership to me is nothing more than a bond (brother or sister hood) and the fact that you will trust that person blindly to always put the partnership above any selfish interests that any of the party might have in order for all parties involved to reach a common goal.
The reason that I’m bringing this up now is partly due to the Thanksgiving holiday that just passed.
I was given the time to do nothing but reflect and once again I’m faced with yet another challenge in my life.
I’m thankful for the bad partnerships that I’ve had as well as the partnerships that I never knew I had.
Live, learn and try not to make the same mistake twice.
