It has been too long.
I know that it has been far too long since my last update and I would like to blame that squarely on faulty Seagate hard drives!
Back in November I read that the first generation MacBooks had hard drives that were starting to fail.
Since I have a first generation MB (MacBook) I decided to go and purchase a Seagate Free Agent Pro external USB hard drive to use as a back up for my MB.
I didn’t have any issues with either my MB or the drive itself so I assumed that everything would be great as well as hoping that my drive wouldn’t die.
After my move to Atlanta I tried to use my trusty Seagate Free Agent Pro on my MB but for some odd reason it wasn’t being detected.
So I plugged the drive into my PC to see if it would at least detect the drive and of course, it didn’t work.
Not a problem (at the time) because my laptop was still going strong and all I had to do was send off for the warranty replacement from Seagate then everything would be back to normal.
Ever heard the phrase, “Shit happens?”
Well it did and it nearly cost me all of my data.
I started my MB up one day and I heard this clicking sound (this is the sound that others have said they had) and my heart sank.
With the restart of my MB I got confirmation that my notebook had just died on me (Apple computers are good but they do have issues, I’ve had at least 4 major issues with mine).
At this point I had nothing on my MB and a “back up” drive that wasn’t working.
What I decided to do was pry open the casing of the back up drive to see if the actual hard drive was bad.
During this process I accidentally sliced open my hand with a screw driver (that case was not meant to be opened after being sealed).
I got the drive out then headed to best buy to get the correct equipment to plug the hard drive into my computer just to see if it would work (voiding the warranty).
SUCCESS!
The hard drive was being detected by my PC so I had some hope of restoring my data from the last back up.
I grabbed a 250 gig Western Digital hard drive from Frys and went through the install (very easy).
I was able to backup everything that I had and I’ve got a lot more storage space now.
Funny thing when I pulled out the bad hard drive from my MB, it was a SEAGATE!
They burned me twice, well actually three because I voided my warranty when I opened the casing to get my information from that trusty “back up.”
OMG so your Macless? holy trash dude what has this world come to?!?!
