My braids, my braids, my braids.

One of my goals in life is to make the cover of Fortune magazine with braids.

At first I wanted to be the first black man with braids on the cover until I had a conversation with one of my childhood friends about what becoming a “grown up” means and how just because you’re not always first doesn’t mean that your accomplishment means anything less.

Normally If I’m not the first at something that I attempted I’m upset.

I don’t want to call myself a sore loser BUT I hate to lose at anything that I apply myself at.

If i’m not the first black man to make the cover of Fortune with braids then no big deal because that would just reaffirm what I’m attempting to accomplish, which is:

  • Show people that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover, especially one that a “normal” person might avoid out of fear due to a hairstyle (of all things).
  • Show “at risk” kids that if I can succeed looking just like you that they can succeed looking just like me.
  • The second point plays into a different goal or purpose that I have in terms of giving back which I will touch on on another day.
