200 + channels and nothing is on.

Up until last April it had been five years since I had cable television in my home.

Now that I’ve had it for almost a year I remember why I got rid of it in the first place:

It’s a complete waste of time and money.

I constantly find myself with the remote in my hand, flipping through hundreds of channels (literally) and telling myself that there is nothing on television to watch.

And this is a “service” that I’m paying for which brings me no real service at all.

Granted the 24 hour news channels are normally informative as well as ESPN but there is only so much news that they will report.

Most of which really isn’t news but entertainment just like the rest of the crap that’s on television.

I haven’t let television consume too much of my time but I have witnessed television dumb down the people in my household.

Trying to point out how the television is an idiot box only makes me look like I’m preaching so the best thing that I can do in this situation is lead by example and cancel the cable since it’s in my name.

There are far more important things to do in a 24 hour time frame to sit in front of a television and have images, brands and products that are meant the to warp reality.

This might not be a decision that is accepted with open arms but it’s my decision to make.
